Unlocking global response – the forum

Examining best practices for unexpected events cannot be undertaken through a telescopic lens. This discussion must be expansive and include factors beyond the event that play an important role in the choices we make when offering assistance. Good intentions are not enough and could have a paradoxical effect on the individuals, the workplace or community we hope to support.

This discussion should not focus on models, instead on the uniqueness and the complexities we face with each event. We should take into account spirituality, culture, individual perceptions of the event and many other nuances yet to be identified that will impact the human experience.

The Forum is designed to encourage global interactions between researchers, academia, service providers and students. Unexpected events that have occurred will be posed for discussion; what we did know, what we didn’t know and how those perspectives impacted the support offered. More importantly, we will identify what we still don’t know, which will take the discussion to unexplored depths. We will then ask how would this same event would look if it took place in another country or region.
